Jhohan Romaña Transfer from San Lorenzo to River Plate
According to TYC, River Plate was interested in Jhohan Romaña during the recent transfer window and made two offers. The last offer of $2,500,000 for 50% of Romaña's rights was rejected by San Lorenzo. Jhohan Romaña stated that he will stay at San Lorenzo despite the interest from other clubs and that he never wanted to leave. He also mentioned having received very large offers that would have altered his and his family's life, but he chose to stay and continue his efforts at San Lorenzo.
Sergio Costantino stated that River's offer for Jhohan Romaña is publicly known and that it does not satisfy San Lorenzo, which is the reason the player remains with the club. A board led by Stefano di Carlo would be willing to improve the offer to meet San Lorenzo's demands and fulfill a specific request from coach Marcelo Gallardo. Costantino also said that they informed Romaña they will analyse any offer that is convenient for him and for the club, and added that they will not create obstacles.
According to TYC, the management of Jhohan Romaña's club has told the player that he will not be sold if proposals do not meet the club's expectations. They will also try to keep him, as Damián Ayude has repeatedly asked to maintain the core squad.
During ongoing negotiations between San Lorenzo and River for Jhohan Romaña, coach Damián Ayude has made a public defense of the player. Ayude disagreed with strong accusations that club official Ulises Morales made against Romaña.
TYC reports that Jhohan Romaña is the main target for River to strengthen their central defense, but the transfer operation has not been resolved after almost a month of discussions. Negotiations between San Lorenzo and River are ongoing. The situation has generated significant reactions within San Lorenzo, where director Ulises Morales has criticized Romaña and alleged that he attempted to leave the club as a free agent. Romaña has expressed anger with San Lorenzo's current management regarding the situation, feeling that actions were taken to make public opinion unfavorable towards him.
Negotiations between San Lorenzo and River Plate for Jhohan Romaña are ongoing, according to TYC. River Plate submitted an offer of 2.6 million dollars for 50% of the defender's rights. San Lorenzo, however, prefers to sell a larger percentage and wants approximately five million dollars for 80% of the rights. River Plate's offer includes a commitment to buy the remaining 50% of the rights for three million dollars within a year. The offer also contains a one-million-dollar penalty clause that would be activated if River Plate does not fulfill the commitment to acquire the full rights. Under the terms of this offer, River Plate would pay a total of 5.6 million dollars for all of Romaña's rights. There is a belief that the transfer could be finalized in the upcoming week.
According to TYC, Sergio Costantino confirmed that the only formal proposal received for Johan Romaña came from River Plate and was rejected.
According to TYC, River Plate increased its initial proposal for Jhohan Romaña, offering 2,500,000 dollars for 50% of his rights, which is 500,000 more than their first offer. San Lorenzo rejected this new offer and responded with a counteroffer of 5 million dollars for 80% of Romaña's rights. Sergio Costantino, president of San Lorenzo, stated that River offered for 50% and San Lorenzo counteroffered for 80% but rejected what was proposed. River's position is that they will not pay double their initial offer. If San Lorenzo does not reduce their demands, River may seek another central defender.
The president of San Lorenzo declared that concerning the USD 2,000,000 proposal for 50% of the Colombian's card, River offered for 50% and San Lorenzo made a counteroffer for 80% but rejected what was proposed.
According to TYC, River is seeking Romaña and a promise of sale exists with him, although no concrete advances have been made for the moment.
San Lorenzo's temporary board, which is managing the club amidst institutional chaos, rejected River Plate's first offer for 27-year-old Colombian centre-back Jhohan Romaña. The proposal of USD 2,000,000 for 50% of the player's rights was considered insufficient. San Lorenzo seeks a higher figure for that percentage or would prefer to sell 100% of his rights, and is reluctant to transfer a key player to a direct rival. The player wants to leave during this transfer window because of the club's internal management conflicts. A potential option to include Sebastián Boselli in the deal was discarded because he would prioritize a move abroad if he were to leave River. The negotiation is described as complex, and River's position is that they are not willing to double their initial offer. If San Lorenzo does not lower its demands, River will withdraw from the talks and search for another central defender. During the negotiations, Romaña posted on Instagram with a phrase stating that everything passes, alongside an image of himself. Romaña joined San Lorenzo in January 2024 and has a contract that expires on December 31, 2026. According to Transfermarkt, his current market value is €6.00m.
