Technical director Gerard Nijkamp stated that Sparta is willing to cooperate with a departure of 37-year-old Dutch attacking midfielder Jens Toornstra. Nijkamp said that Toornstra was mainly on the bench with them and has indicated that he wants to end his career as a footballer, adding that if a club comes forward, they will not make things difficult because Toornstra does not deserve that. Toornstra, who has been capped four times for the Netherlands, joined Sparta in July 2025 and has a contract until June 30, 2027. In the 2025/2026 Eredivisie season, he made 17 appearances without providing a goal or an assist. His current market value is estimated by Transfermarkt to be €200k.
