James McConnell Transfer from Liverpool U21 to Ajax

Goal.com reports on James McConnell's new contract with Liverpool and his upcoming loan move to Ajax. James McConnell has reportedly signed a new contract with Liverpool and will soon head off to Ajax to replace Jordan Henderson in a loan move.

Ajax has shown interest in acquiring James McConnell from Liverpool, as confirmed by sources close to both clubs following a report by The Athletic. However, the transfer is not as advanced as some reports in England suggest. Ajax remains hopeful about bringing the 20-year-old English midfielder to Amsterdam. Despite this interest, Liverpool retains significant confidence in McConnell, highlighted by his recent signing of a new five-year contract at Anfield. Ajax is searching for a replacement for Jordan Henderson and believes McConnell could secure potential playing time in Amsterdam. Their strategy involves a season-long loan for McConnell, similar to the previous arrangement with goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros. The presence of John Heitinga, who has worked with both players as an assistant at Liverpool, might influence McConnell's decision to move to Amsterdam. Besides Ajax, clubs like Hull City, West Bromwich Albion, and Oxford United, along with Austrian club Sturm Graz, have also been linked with McConnell. Transfermarkt lists McConnell's current market value at €2.00m.
