Team Talk reports that Sunderland is one of two teams being monitored in the pursuit of Jake O'Brien, and that the club is seeking a centre back before the summer transfer window concludes. Both of these clubs would also provide the chance to participate in European football this season. It is said that clubs in France and Italy are also interested in the player, but that they may struggle to meet Everton's asking price. Jake O'Brien joined Everton in 2024 for a £17 million fee. It is thought that a deal valued at £20 million could be sufficient to finalize a transfer.

Sunderland is considered a potential destination for 25-year-old Irish defender Jake O'Brien, as his club is now unexpectedly willing to listen to offers for him ahead of the transfer deadline. Paddy Boyland of The Athletic reported that O'Brien is attracting interest from clubs in England and Europe. Crystal Palace has also been linked with the defender. The defender is not actively trying to force a move away from Everton, but the club will only sanction his departure if a replacement centre-back is signed. O'Brien has 17 caps for Ireland. He joined Everton in July 2024 and his contract runs until 2028. His current market value is listed by Transfermarkt as €18.00m.
