During their meeting, they reached an agreement to renew Peña's contract, which is set to expire in June 2026, and to arrange a loan move for him. This decision is expected to help Barcelona generate sufficient 'fair play' to register Tek Szczesny as the second goalkeeper following Joan Garcia. Although Elche was not among the first clubs to express interest—Como and Celta had shown interest earlier but needed to offload players first—the chance for Peña to return home and the trust placed in him by Elche's coach, Eder Sarabia, who had previously worked with Peña at Barcelona under Setién, played a significant role in convincing the goalkeeper. Sources close to Peña have indicated that the deal could be finalized early this week, well ahead of the transfer window deadline on September 1st.
