French goalkeeper Illan Meslier is expected to leave Elland Road this summer, and Birmingham City could consider signing him for free. The goalkeeper's contract with Leeds United is set to expire this summer. The 49ers will not offer Meslier a new contract. If Birmingham were to sign Meslier, the Whites would wish him well. On 'Keep Right On – A Birmingham City Podcast', local Blues journalists Alex Dicken and Brian Dick discussed the possibility of Meslier joining the club at St Andrew’s Stadium. Alex Dicken stated that Meslier is a very good and decent Championship goalkeeper, that he likes him, and that he performed well under Marcelo Bielsa. Dicken added that at 26 years old, a club could offer him a three or four-year contract without concern. Brian Dick asked Dicken if he would be happy with Meslier as the Blues' long-term goalkeeper, to which Dicken replied that he would be content with him. There have been no official reports suggesting that Meslier will join Chris Davies’ side. Meslier joined Leeds in July 2020. He has 13 caps for the France U21 national team and has previously been linked with clubs including Inter, Milan, and Celtic.
