Football Insider states that Arsenal and Chelsea are interested in Igor Matanović, and that the German club does not intend to sell him or consider offers for him during the winter transfer window. There is no confirmation that any interested clubs have sent an official offer to Freiburg or have started negotiations. According to the English portal, a new opportunity for interested clubs to sign Matanović could arise next summer. Interest from English clubs was also mentioned during the summer, and according to talkSPORT journalist Ben Jacobs, United and Tottenham were considering bringing Matanović in during August. Matanović stated at the beginning of September that he had not spoken to any club and was focused on his obligations at Freiburg.

Matanović, who joined Freiburg in July 2025 and has 13 caps and 2 goals for Croatia, would be open to a move to England if any offers arrive. After he scored 15 goals last season, some clubs considered a move for him in the summer when he might have been available for around £30m. His valuation has since increased to approximately £50m. Transfermarkt estimates his current market value to be €30.00m. Freiburg are not expected to prevent Matanović from leaving if a big club makes an approach, but they intend to receive a significant fee, considering his valuation to be in a similar range to Johan Manzambi, who was sold to Aston Villa for £50m in the summer.
