According to Tuttomercato, a transfer involving Cesena, Cagliari, and Cremonese was halted because of a player's injury. Cesena had identified Gennaro Borrelli, a 26-year-old Italian centre-forward from Cagliari, to replace Cristian Shpendi in a three-club deal that also involved Cremonese. The arrangement would have sent Shpendi to Cremonese, and Cagliari was to acquire Federico Bonazzoli from the Lombard club. The plan was stopped after Borrelli suffered a muscular injury during a match against Inter. Because his recovery time is unknown, Cesena chose not to proceed with the risky transfer, which caused the interconnected moves to collapse. Borrelli has one cap for Italy U20, joined Cagliari in July 2025, and has a contract until June 2029. Transfermarkt lists his current market value as €3.00m, and he has also been linked with Modena. Palermo was reportedly prepared to offer €3.5 million for the player in January 2025, which is the same fee for which he transferred to Brescia in July 2024.
