Boca Juniors has been interested in the 26-year-old Argentine defender for some time and might make an offer before the transfer window closes, but they now face competition from their rival, River. River has initiated informal talks with Argentinos Juniors to understand their demands for the player. At present, neither of the interested clubs has submitted a formal offer. River's pursuit is partly linked to the potential departure of Lucas Martínez Quarta, and there is a belief within the club that a transfer for Álvarez could be secured for approximately five million dollars. Álvarez has two caps for the Argentina U20 team, joined Argentinos Juniors in January 2024, and has a contract that runs until the end of 2029. Transfermarkt estimates his current market value at €4.50m. In the 2025/2026 domestic league season, he made a combined 24 appearances and scored 3 goals.
