According to Luis Castillo on a Récord+ program, an agreement has been reached for 24-year-old Mexican goalkeeper Fernando Tapia to return to América as a reinforcement for the Clausura 2026. The deal involves América, which already owned 60% of the player's federative rights, acquiring the remaining 40% from his current club, Tigres. The club is reportedly seeking goalkeeping cover because their starting keeper, Luis Ángel Malagón, is expected to miss the final stages of the tournament due to a pre-World Cup national team training camp. Tapia, an academy product of América, returns after a period with Tigres, which he joined in July 2025. At Tigres, he did not get his desired amount of playing time, making 8 appearances in the Liga MX U21 Apertura this season. The goalkeeper has 13 caps for the Mexico U23 national team and has a current market value of €2.00m, according to Transfermarkt.
