According to Fox Sports Mexico journalist Rubén Rodríguez, West Ham United's 28-year-old Mexican international Edson Álvarez does not intend to rejoin his former club, Club América, at this point in his career. Talk of a return emerged as the Mexican transfer window remains open until September 11th. Álvarez, who returned to West Ham after Fenerbahçe did not make his loan permanent, was not keen on playing in the Championship following the London club's relegation. The player's desire is to continue in Europe, where clubs including Ajax, Real Sociedad, and Olympiacos were reportedly interested in signing him during the summer. Rodríguez has dismissed the links to América. There is a good possibility the midfielder will remain at West Ham until at least the end of the year. Álvarez, who has 103 caps and 7 goals for Mexico, is contracted at West Ham until 2028. During the summer transfer window, West Ham's asking price was cited as €15 million during talks with Ajax in July 2026, while Real Sociedad reportedly offered €7.5m for 50% of the player's rights. More recently, in August 2026, Olympiakos reportedly submitted a formal offer of €8 million.
