Domagoj Begonja, a promising young left-back from the Croatian third division club Kustošija, is reportedly close to signing with Varaždin, according to Italian insider Lorenzo Lepore. Begonja joined Kustošija in the summer of 2024 after departing Hajduk, where he did not have the opportunity to play for the senior team. In the previous season, he participated in 23 matches across all competitions, scoring two goals, and was consistently part of the starting lineup, averaging over 80 minutes per game. Kustošija has retained a percentage of his future transfer fee. Begonja is set to join Varaždin just in time for their first match in the second qualifying round of the Conference League against Santa Clara, which is scheduled to take place in exactly seven days.
