Dimitris Giannoulis stated that he has the desire to return to Greece and is aware of the strong interest from PAOK fans for his return to Thessaloniki. Giannoulis mentioned that the decision is influenced by various conditions, including timing and financial aspects for both himself and Augsburg. He also said that he has two years remaining on his four-year contract with the club. Giannoulis stated that he responds to questions about returning by saying it will be soon, but emphasized that it is not certain when or if it will happen. He also acknowledged ongoing strong interest from a major Greek team.
Dimitris Giannoulis has spoken for the first time about a potential return to Greece. He responded to questions from PAOK fans concerning if and when he would return to Thessaloniki by explaining his personal desire and the difference in current circumstances compared to two years prior.
Augsburg is reportedly not willing to let Dimitris Giannoulis leave at this time, and PAOK does not intend to proceed with a move unless the German club's demands decrease. Giannoulis has communicated to his circles that he would like to return to Greece and specifically to Toumba in the long term. PAOK made an unofficial, exploratory contact with Augsburg to determine their intentions rather than to make an offer. The response was that Giannoulis is not readily available. According to German media, Augsburg does not want to weaken their team during their effort to remain in their division, and a serious discussion would require a proposal of 5–6 million euros. Giannoulis is not an immediate priority for PAOK but remains on their list for the future, particularly for after the season.
PAOK is reportedly considering Dimitris Giannoulis, a 30-year-old Greek left-back. Giannoulis previously left PAOK for Norwich in 2021 for a fee of 7.5 million euros. He is under contract with Augsburg until the summer of 2028 and has an annual salary of around 1.3 million euros. Augsburg would require five million euros for his transfer, though according to other accounts, the figure is six million euros. Giannoulis, who joined the German club in July 2024, has 33 caps for Greece. In the current Bundesliga season, he has made 13 appearances, scoring 2 goals and providing 2 assists. Transfermarkt lists his current market value at €3.00m.
