According to 'kicker', Damion Downs is close to moving to the Bundesliga, and Werder Bremen is reportedly in promising talks with the striker.

According to Sky Germany, Werder Bremen are expressing their interest in signing Damion Downs. It is not known whether this would be a loan transfer or a permanent deal. Downs reportedly has a sizable long-term deal at Southampton. Technical director Johannes Spors downplayed the suggestion that Downs would leave on loan during the winter transfer window, stating that nothing is guaranteed and it is something they will see next month, but it is not something that he is working on.

According to a report from Bild, Werder Bremen have opened talks with Southampton to sign Damion Downs on loan for the remainder of the 2025/26 season. Bremen’s interest in Downs is contextualized by the club having scored only 18 goals in 15 Bundesliga games. Downs would be open to a return to the Bundesliga. The report from Bild also states that Bremen are the only team to have opened talks.

According to a TV station, Werder Bremen and other Bundesliga clubs are contacting Damion Downs. According to 'Sky', Downs is open to a move in the winter, and the most likely scenario is a loan to the Bundesliga.

Werder Bremen is interested in signing 21-year-old United States international Damion Downs from Southampton during the winter transfer window. The Bundesliga side wants to strengthen its attack after Bayer Leverkusen loanee Victor Boniface suffered a long-term knee injury. The centre-forward wants more regular playing time to increase his chances of making the United States World Cup squad. Hamburger SV are also reportedly interested in the former 1. FC Köln player, whose contract at Southampton runs until 2029. In the current Championship season, Downs has made 11 appearances, recording one assist and no goals. He has earned one cap for the USA U23 national team. Southampton signed Downs from FC Köln in July 2025 for a reported fee of €8.0M. Transfermarkt estimates his current market value at €7.00m.
