Sacha Tavolieri reports that Anderlecht's attempts to secure a deal with Cheikhou Kouyaté were unsuccessful. The club failed to reach an agreement with the player after discussions that lasted almost two years. At one point, it was planned that Kouyaté would join the staff.

According to Voetbalnieuws.be, a return of Cheikhou Kouyaté to Anderlecht will not happen. The midfielder was seen as an ideal dispensatie player for RSCA Futures, but Anderlecht does not see a benefit in his arrival.

The management of RSC Anderlecht has started discussions with Senegalese player Cheikhou Kouyaté. The club is considering adding him to provide experience for their U23 team, RSCA Futures, in the Challenger Pro League. A previous approach for the player was made by Anderlecht last summer.
