PAOK was interested in acquiring Bernard on two occasions, once in December and again at the end of the winter transfer window, with the approval of coach Lucescu. Bernard wanted to return to Greece and play for PAOK. However, PAOK required Bernard to join as a free agent. Bernard has a contract with Atletico Mineiro until 31/12/2027, and the Brazilian club did not agree to release him without compensation or to forgive a large part of the money owed to him. The transfer did not happen due to the club's refusal and time constraints. Bernard started for Atletico Mineiro in the opening match of the Brazilian championship against Palmeiras.

Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola indicated that Bernard, a 33-year-old attacking midfielder, is seeking to leave Atlético Mineiro due to limited playing opportunities this season, and he is contemplating a return to Europe. PAOK has initiated contact with him through his agent regarding a potential transfer in the summer. While Bernard is open to waiting for more opportunities at Mineiro, the club has expressed that they will not stand in his way if such opportunities do not materialize. Besides PAOK, both Panathinaikos and Olympiacos have expressed interest in acquiring Bernard during the upcoming summer transfer window. Bernard previously played for Panathinaikos, where he made 85 appearances, scoring 13 goals and providing 15 assists over two seasons. This season at Atlético Mineiro, he has participated in only 15 matches, accumulating a total of 259 minutes of play.
