Along with fellow top-flight side Bournemouth, Brentford considered a move for Tanaka based on his performances in the Championship. Sources confirm that Celtic were also prepared to renew their past interest in the player had Leeds not been promoted, while several Bundesliga clubs were also watching his situation closely. The player himself acknowledged that he could have departed Elland Road if the club had not returned to the top flight, a move which proved pivotal in him staying.
