In early December, BILD and Mundo Deportivo had reported that Ajax was competing for Licina. His contract was due to expire at the end of the season. Juventus faced competition from several clubs, including AC Milan and Napoli who were also said to be interested, while Ajax was a competitor at an earlier stage. Bayern was reportedly open to his departure as the transition to the first team was proving difficult for the player.
