Amid interest from clubs including Gent, Abdullah Iqbal told Expressen he has informed Mjällby that he is ready to move. The player said there have been some conversations and offers for him and suggested that ten times the 200,000 euro Mjällby signed him for would be a really good deal for the club. However, Mjällby sporting director Hasse Larsson told Expressen that the club has no intention of selling Iqbal this winter. Larsson added that Iqbal must accept it is not the time for him to leave, as he has a contract until the end of 2028 and the club needs him.

AA Gent expressed interest in Abdullah Iqbal, a 23-year-old Danish-Pakistani central defender from Swedish champions Mjällby who also captains the Pakistani national team. However, the club may not sign the player due to significant competition. Kasimpasa is actively pursuing Iqbal and has made a $1 million bid for him. Ferencvaros and Columbus Crew are also competing to sign him, making it increasingly difficult for Gent to secure the defender. Iqbal, who has 19 caps for Pakistan, joined Mjällby in August 2024 and has a contract until the end of 2028; his current market value is €2.00m, according to Transfermarkt.
