Wrexham compete to sign Rangers midfielder Joe Rothwell

The English midfielder is attracting interest from several clubs for a potential transfer.

Wrexham are competing to sign English Rangers midfielder Joe Rothwell, joining fellow Championship clubs Sheffield United and Derby County, who are also interested in the player. Since joining Ibrox last summer, Rothwell has had limited opportunities, making only five Scottish Premiership starts and playing only one minute of football since the beginning of November. In total, he has made 8 appearances and provided 1 assist in the Scottish Premiership this season.

Wrexham is the most recent club to express an interest in the 31-year-old, as they are looking to strengthen their squad for a promotion campaign. It is reported that Rangers are willing to let Rothwell leave for a reduced fee. While his wages have been an obstacle for other interested clubs, this is not anticipated to be a problem for Wrexham if they make an offer. Rothwell has been capped three times for England at the U20 level and has a contract with Rangers that runs until June 2028. Reports in January 2026 indicated that Rangers aim to recover the €460,000 fee they paid for the player. Transfermarkt estimates his current market value at €1.20m.
