A report, citing a source with strong club connections, states that West Ham United have three targets at Celtic as they look to rebuild following their relegation to the Championship. The report specifies that one of the players is Japanese but does not name any of the three, which has led to speculation about 28-year-old Reo Hatate. Reo Hatate has been linked with moves away from Celtic all summer, and his future is uncertain. The midfielder's standing in the team under Martin O’Neill has been reduced, which makes a departure appear more likely if the club receives a suitable offer.

It is widely expected that Hatate will consider his options this summer. The Japan international has 11 caps for his country and is under contract with Celtic until May 2028. According to Transfermarkt, he has a current market value of €10.00m. A former player suggested in May 2025 that Celtic would accept a £10 million offer. This is the same amount that was reportedly rejected by the club from an unnamed French club in August 2024.
