After Ukrainian forward Viktor Tsygankov, 28, communicated his desire to leave Girona following their relegation, the club offered him the alternative of moving to New York City, which belongs to the same ownership group. The forward, who has one year remaining on his contract, declined the offer because he wants to stay in Europe, and Spain is his first choice.

Girona is willing to sell for around €10 to €15 million, and his former club Dynamo de Kiev holds 50 percent of his rights. Other clubs that have shown interest in the player include Ajax, Espanyol, and Trabzonspor, and teams from the Premier League and Italy are also monitoring his situation. Tsygankov has 67 caps and 14 goals for Ukraine. He joined Girona in January 2023 for a fee reported to be €5 million. According to Transfermarkt, his current market value is €15.00m.
