Nigerian international Josh Maja is a free agent after failing to agree a new contract with West Brom, with whom he had been in negotiations. The forward will now depart the club. Watford are among the Championship sides, alongside Stoke City and Bristol City, who could be interested in the 27-year-old.
Watford need to sign a new, experienced forward to replace last season's top scorer, Luca Kjerrumgaard, who returned to his parent club Udinese after his loan ended. With Watford's current strikers being 20-year-old Mamadou Doumbia and 21-year-old Vivaldo Semedo, manager Alessio Dionisi will need a more experienced forward, and Maja could contribute if the environment at the club is right. Maja, who joined West Brom in August 2023, has one cap for Nigeria and a current Transfermarkt valuation of €4.50m.
