Hannover 96 has contacted 33-year-old German-Spanish goalkeeper Stefan Ortega as the club continues its search for a new primary goalkeeper. Coach Christian Titz considers Ortega to fit the profile sought due to his strengths in build-up play and his confidence on the ball. The goalkeeper, who moved from Manchester City to Nottingham Forest in the winter, is a free agent after his contract with Nottingham Forest was not renewed.

It is uncertain if a move to the 2. Bundesliga would be an option for Ortega, with Matheo Raab reportedly still the favorite for the goalkeeping position at Hannover. Ortega has not been capped by Germany and has a current market value of €4.00m, according to Transfermarkt. Several other clubs, including Arsenal, Werder Bremen and VfL Wolfsburg, have also been associated with the goalkeeper.
