Falkirk are attempting to sign Paul McGovern, an 18-year-old winger from Glenavon who was recently named Northern Ireland's young player of the year. Glenavon are expected to sell the Northern Ireland under-19 international following their relegation from the Irish Premiership.

Falkirk's manager John McGlynn and his head of recruitment Alan Fraser have been monitoring McGovern for several months and have competition from clubs in England's Championship and League One. Falkirk believe they can provide a better route to first-team football than their rivals.

The player, who has just finished his A-Levels, has indicated he feels it is the correct time to leave Northern Ireland for a full-time career. McGovern joined Glenavon in August 2024 and has a contract until May 2026. His current market value is €100k, according to Transfermarkt. He has 8 appearances and 1 goal for his country's U19 side.
