Derby County are reportedly interested in signing Portland Timbers defender Finn Surman as manager John Eustace assesses his options in the final weeks of the summer transfer window. The Rams are one of several clubs in Britain that have expressed an interest in the 22-year-old New Zealand international, with Derby being the only named club at this stage. Surman's profile increased following his participation with New Zealand at the World Cup.
His current contract with the MLS club expires at the end of 2026, and Portland Timbers hold an option for an additional year. Derby would not face work permit complications for the defender, who was born in Cardiff and is eligible to work in the UK. Surman joined the club in July 2024 and has made 18 appearances in the current Major League Soccer season, providing one assist.
