John Textor was negotiating the transfer of Danilo, a 24-year-old Brazilian defensive midfielder, to Nottingham Forest directly with the club's owner, Evangelos Marinakis. Textor conducted the talks without the involvement of other Botafogo directors, and they had progressed to an agreed price of 19 million euros. The negotiation is currently interrupted because of a judicial decision from a Rio de Janeiro court which prohibits the sale of Botafogo players. Nottingham Forest can only sign players until the following Monday, when the transfer window in England closes.
Danilo, who has yet to be capped by Brazil, joined Botafogo in July 2025 and is under contract until June 2029; this season, he has made two appearances in the Campeonato Carioca and scored two goals in one appearance in Série A. According to Transfermarkt, his current market value is €22.00m. Botafogo acquired the player from Nottingham Forest for a reported €23 million in July 2025. It is also reported that Botafogo rejected a €30 million offer from Fulham in September 2025. Flamengo, Zenit, and Palmeiras have also been recently linked with the player.
