Both Blackburn and Middlesbrough have enquired about AEK Athens defender James Penrice. Reporter Ben Jacobs stated that the two clubs have asked about the 27-year-old Scottish left-back. However, AEK has reportedly not yet received a formal approach from either club.

Rangers had also previously shown interest, which was described as strong in the winter, but the amount they could offer did not meet AEK's valuation and they have not made another approach since. In January 2026, AEK reportedly rejected a bid from Rangers valued at approximately €3.5 million, and in May 2026, the club's asking price was said to be over €2 million. Penrice, whose contract runs until June 2028, made 16 league appearances for AEK in the 2025/2026 season. His market value is currently rated at €2.50m by Transfermarkt.
