Rangers are closely monitoring Sandefjord's 22-year-old Swedish and Bosnia-Herzegovinian centre-back Zinedin Smajlović and have made enquiries about him, but they are part of a large group of interested clubs. Olympiacos, Hull City, Fenerbahce, Toulouse, Feyenoord, and Lyon have also been monitoring the player and have made enquiries. According to journalist Rudy Galetti, Celtic are reportedly leading the pursuit for the player, having submitted an improved offer of €4.5m plus €2m. Sandefjord are said to be in no hurry to sell Smajlović, who is under contract until 2028, as they hope the widespread interest will result in a bidding process for the defender. The Sweden U21 international, who joined the club in February 2025, has a current Transfermarkt market value of €3.00m and has made 10 appearances with one assist in the 2025/2026 Eliteserien season. Reports in June 2026 noted Sandefjord's asking price was between €5m and €6m. These reports also stated that Olympiacos had offers rising to €4m plus bonuses rejected, while an earlier Celtic bid of around €4m was also reportedly turned down.
