Preston's interest was initially reported by Nixon on Tuesday. Paul Heckingbottom's side is eager to utilise the loan market in the latter stages of the window. Nixon has stated that Preston are one of three second-tier teams keen on taking Abbott on loan for the campaign. Both Preston and Watford have submitted rival bids.

Journalist Alan Nixon reported on Patreon that Preston North End are interested in a loan deal for Zach Abbott, a centre-back from Nottingham Forest. The club reportedly wants to complete a temporary move before the transfer window ends. Watford, another Championship side, has also been mentioned in connection with the England youth international. Abbott has a contract with Nottingham Forest until June 2029. He is considered unlikely to play frequently in the Premier League this season, and a loan move is considered beneficial for his development. The 20-year-old has two caps for the England U20 team and his current market value on Transfermarkt is €4.00m.
