Arsenal are unlikely to sign Victor Valdepenas from Real Madrid because he was given an improved contract that includes a €50m release clause.

German outlet Bild reports that Arsenal are making a significant effort to sign Real Madrid defender Valdepenas before Dortmund. The report adds that Arsenal chief Andrea Berta is working to persuade Valdepenas’ camp to move to the Premier League. Arsenal were first linked with Valdepenas in October, at which time Fabrizio Romano revealed they had been monitoring him for a few months.

Arsenal have been monitoring the development of Real Madrid's Victor Valdepenas for some time. Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen are also interested in the Spain youth international. To date, Real Madrid have not yet received an offer for the versatile defender, with interest expected to become more concrete in the summer.
