Although he has not publicly stated his retirement from playing, Ruiz is now part of Espanyol's sports department, where he will be responsible for players in the performance stage, specifically with the filial and Juvenil A teams. At the age of 36, Ruiz is beginning a new chapter at the club where he launched his professional career, having made his debut with Espanyol's first team on December 6, 2009. Across two separate periods with the club (2009-11 and 2023-24), he accumulated 56 official appearances in the blanquiazul jersey. His professional journey also includes time with Napoli, Valencia, Villarreal, Besiktas, and Real Betis, with whom he clinched the Copa del Rey in 2022.
