Toby Steward has returned for a second season-long loan with St Johnstone after signing a new three-year contract with Portsmouth. Steward made 45 appearances last season as St Johnstone won the Championship title and a return to Scotland's top flight, keeping a league record 20 clean sheets. Portsmouth manager John Mousinho said that it is unsurprising that they wanted him back and that Portsmouth are pleased that he will now get a chance to compete at a higher level.

Portsmouth are expected to permit the goalkeeper to rejoin the Perth outfit following their promotion to the Scottish Premiership. Steward was given permission to join St Johnstone 12 months ago and made 45 appearances in all competitions in the past season.
