Tjaronn Chery leaving Antwerp?
Tjaronn Chery, a standout player for Antwerp FC, completed a transfer to his former club NEC Nijmegen. Despite Antwerp's intention to keep Chery due to his limited market value and an existing contract until 2026, NEC Nijmegen offered him a more attractive and longer contract until 2028. The transfer was officially announced by both clubs on Sunday, with NEC's director of football, Carlos Aalbers, highlighting Chery's professionalism and readiness to continue his career. The transfer fee was speculated to be around 500,000 euros, although not officially disclosed.
Chery is on the verge of returning to NEC Nijmegen. He successfully completed medical and physical tests there. The expectation is that the transfer will be finalized soon. Chery is expected to sign a three-year contract in Nijmegen, securing his employment until the age of 40. This long-term contract was the decisive factor in his decision to leave Antwerp after just one season. Antwerp FC would receive approximately 500,000 euros from this transfer.
Tjaronn Chery, currently playing for Antwerp, has received a very tempting offer from Al-Nasr in Dubai. Al-Nasr's coach, Alfred Schreuder, is looking to bring in a new playmaker this winter after missing out on Hakim Ziyech, who chose Al-Duhail in Qatar. Chery, at the age of 36, may be open to a lucrative offer from the desert. Antwerp is reluctant to let Chery go, especially close to the transfer deadline, but might be powerless if an irresistible offer comes in.
