Sources around 27-year-old Japanese international Takehiro Tomiyasu say that the chance is small, but not entirely impossible, that the versatile defender will extend his contract with Ajax. At his previous club Arsenal, Tomiyasu earned nearly five million pounds per year, equivalent to about 5.7 million euros. Ajax no longer wants or is able to pay such salaries. However, insiders have said that money is not what drives Tomiyasu the most, and those same insiders also see that he is enjoying his time in Amsterdam. Tomiyasu joined Ajax in December 2025 and has made 6 appearances in the Eredivisie this season. The defender has 42 caps for Japan and a current market value of €8.00m, according to Transfermarkt.
