Sebastiaan Bornauw Transfer from Leeds United to FC Köln

Bild reports that Cologne attempted to sign Sebastiaan Bornauw from Leeds, but the player did not receive a release from the club.

According to BILD, FC has not given up hope on a winter transfer for Sebastiaan Bornauw despite a more relaxed personnel situation in defense, and the Belgian would immediately agree to a return on a loan basis. However, Leeds reportedly wants to sign another central defender first. Cologne is more focused on a last-minute transfer. Sports director Thomas Kessler said that they still have just under two weeks left and have already initiated a few things. He added that there is always a club involved that might decide not to let a player go and that developments can lead to a player getting more playing time again. Kessler stated that they have prepared, are watching the situation very closely, and will see what happens in the next two weeks.

FC Köln has a concrete interest in a renewed collaboration with Sebastiaan Bornauw. The continuation of this interest is dependent on the results of further medical examinations after Bornauw sustained a hip injury and was substituted at halftime during the cup match against Derby County. Daniel Farke stated that he does not think Bornauw will be sidelined for weeks.

Köln had reached an agreement with Leeds United's Sebastiaan Bornauw, but the transfer appeared to be cancelled after the player was allowed to play during the holidays. However, a transfer is now considered possible again after Bornauw was on the bench for the majority of the match at Newcastle, only playing in the final minutes. According to BILD, the Belgian is still being offered and wants to leave the club to secure more playing time. Initially, only a loan would be possible. Bornauw has a contract in England until 2029, and while it may be possible for Köln to negotiate a purchase option, this will be difficult.

Bild reports that sports boss Thomas Kessler is planning up to three winter transfers for the club, targeting two wing-backs and a central defender. Among the names being circulated is Sebastiaan Bornauw from Leeds.

According to Bild, FC Köln have held internal talks over a possible January transfer for Sebastiaan Bornauw. The report suggests that Köln are likely to pursue a loan deal in the winter transfer period, as they look to take advantage of Bornauw’s limited playing time in the Premier League. Since his £5.1 million summer transfer, Bornauw has struggled to get into the starting lineup.

Sebastiaan Bornauw, a 26-year-old Belgian defender, appears to have no future at Leeds United following a difficult start at the club after a €6 million summer transfer, having made only two brief substitute appearances. A return to Germany is a possibility, as his former club FC Köln would like to bring the defender back on loan this winter to solve their defensive problems. Bornauw previously played for the German side from 2019 to 2021. The defender, who has four caps for Belgium, has a current market value of €5.00m, according to Transfermarkt. He has also been linked with Anderlecht.
