Colchester United have signed midfielder Romeo Akachukwu on loan from Southampton for the rest of the season. The 19-year-old, a Republic of Ireland Under-21 international who also holds Nigerian citizenship, made his senior debut for Saints as a late substitute in a Carabao Cup win at Cardiff City in August 2024 but has not appeared for the first team since. In the Premier League 2 this season, he has registered 3 goals and 4 assists in 11 appearances, and his current Transfermarkt market value is €150k. The move to the Jobserve Community Stadium is Akachukwu's first loan spell, and he becomes Colchester's third signing in January.
