Millwall are in discussions to re-sign English winger Romain Esse from Crystal Palace, a move prompted by their sale of Femi Azeez to Brighton & Hove Albion. According to a report from David Ornstein, the pursuit of Esse is a direct consequence of the Azeez sale. It is currently unknown whether the transfer would be a loan or a permanent deal, and any potential agreement is dependent on medical examinations and final formalities. Romain Esse is not considered part of Pierre Sage's first-team plans. The BBC has stated that the player is not considered suitable for the Eagles. This move would be a return for the 21-year-old player, who originally departed Millwall for Palace 18 months prior in a transfer with a value of up to £14.5 million. Prior to Millwall's approach, it was reported that the Belgian club Club Brugge were near to signing Esse on a permanent basis, but those talks failed. Esse's contract with Crystal Palace runs until June 2030. During discussions in August 2026, Crystal Palace reportedly established an asking price of approximately €12 million after rejecting a bid from Club Brugge of €8 million plus €2 million in bonuses. Wrexham and Preston North End have also been associated with an interest in the player.
