Basel has rejected a €3 million bid from Al-Fateh for 27-year-old Nigerian winger Philip Otele, as the club is seeking a fixed fee of €4 million. It is understood that the player has already agreed to personal terms with the bidding club. Otele, who joined Basel in July 2025, has a contract that runs until 2028 and has received five caps for Nigeria. His current market value is estimated by Transfermarkt at €4.00m. Several other clubs, including Birmingham City and Lecce, have also been associated with the player. Earlier in January 2026, Basel's asking price was reportedly around €7 million, and following a loan spell at Hamburger SV, the German club possessed a purchase option valued between €4.5 million and €5 million.
