Rumors had circulated about Péter Szappanos potentially returning to Paks before he ultimately signed with Puskás Akadémia FC. The 34-year-old goalkeeper, who plays for the national team, had recently ended his contract with Saudi club Al-Fateh and was speculated to either return to Paks or move to Ferencváros. Nonetheless, he chose to join Puskás Akadémia FC, with whom he signed a contract extending until the summer of 2028. Puskás Akadémia's head coach, Hornyák Zsolt, mentioned that following Pécsi Ármin's departure, they needed to strengthen the goalkeeping position and took the opportunity to sign a player of Szappanos's quality swiftly, recognizing him as a national team-level goalkeeper. Despite this, Szappanos is not included in the squad for the second qualifying round of the Conference League and will miss the forthcoming match against Arisz.
