Birmingham City have converted Patrick Roberts' loan deal into a permanent transfer on the final day of the window. His Sunderland contract was due to expire at the end of the season, and the winger has signed a two-and-a-half year contract that lasts until the summer of 2028.

According to the Northern Echo, Birmingham City and Sunderland have been in talks over a permanent deal for Patrick Roberts. Birmingham are looking to achieve a top-six finish. Roberts has played a key role on the right-wing for Birmingham over the last four months. The winger is in the final year of his contract at Sunderland, but Sunderland have the option to add another 12 months to his deal, which would increase the asking price.

Chris Davies has confirmed Birmingham City are attempting to negotiate the permanent transfer of Patrick Roberts. There is a desire within the club to make Roberts' stay permanent, and completing the deal this month would make a loan space available. Davies stated that they are looking into the matter and that he is aware those conversations are happening. He added that they are hopeful, but that several components of the deal need to be resolved. Davies also said that this outcome would be ideal.

There was no option-to-buy inserted in Patrick Roberts' initial loan switch to Birmingham City from Sunderland. Birmingham Live claims that Sunderland are willing to offload Roberts this window to gain some funds for the player. Sunderland signed him in January 2022. There is very little time left on Roberts' Sunderland contract, which is set to expire in June.
