According to Globo.com, Botafogo has arranged the sale of Brazilian defensive midfielder Newton to Santos, with the clubs negotiating 70% of the 26-year-old's rights for a fee between €3 million and €3.5 million. The deal is being completed on the last day of the transfer window, and Santos is rushing to finalize the remaining details for the signing, which was a request from coach Cuca. The midfielder is currently sidelined with a right shoulder injury sustained in mid-March and is not expected to return until the beginning of April. Newton joined Botafogo in January 2024, and his contract runs until the end of 2027; he has made 4 appearances in the current Série A season.
