Rubio previously played for Valladolid from 2019 to 2021, and the club is confident about securing his signing as the player wishes to return. Espanyol would view a loan move for Rubio to Zorrilla favorably. Rubio joined Espanyol in July 2025 and has a contract until 2028. His market value is €1.50m, according to Transfermarkt.
