Belgian centre-back Maximiliano Caufriez has appeared on a list of targets for Standard Liège's sporting director, Marc Wilmots, to reinforce the defense. The club's directors reportedly appreciate the 29-year-old's experienced profile. Caufriez played for the club's youth team during the 2014/15 season and is available on a free transfer after his contract with Clermont Foot 63 expires this month. He made 19 appearances in Ligue 2 for Clermont Foot 63 last season. His familiarity with Dimitri Lavalée is also considered a factor, as they previously played together at both the U19 level for Standard and at STVV. Caufriez joined his current club in July 2023 and has been capped once by Belgium at the U21 level. According to Transfermarkt, his current market value is €700k.
