Cymru Premier club Penybont have signed left-sided defender Max Melbourne from National League side Gateshead as part of their recruitment for an upcoming UEFA Conference League campaign. The 27-year-old made 16 appearances for Gateshead last season but had not featured in a senior match after January 20. Melbourne, who, according to Transfermarkt, is eligible to represent Wales through family connections, started his career with West Brom and has had spells with clubs including Morecambe, Lincoln City, Walsall, Partick Thistle, and Stevenage. He joined Gateshead in August 2025, and his contract was due to expire on 30/06/2026. In an announcement, Penybont stated they were delighted to sign the defender.
