Liverpool have been following the development of 24-year-old Italian left-back Matteo Ruggeri for a couple of years. The club made an inquiry for the player after the 2024 Europa League final but received a negative response from Atletico Madrid. The Spanish club has also rejected interest from Tottenham, as well as from Serie A clubs including Fiorentina, Milan, and Juventus. It is reported that Manager Simeone intends to keep Ruggeri for at least another season. The club has rejected several proposals, some of which were for amounts greater than the 20 million paid for him a year ago. Ruggeri, who has not yet been capped by Italy, is under contract with Atletico until 2030. His current market value is €28.00m, according to Transfermarkt. Reports in June 2026 indicated Atletico Madrid's asking price for the player was between €25 million and €30 million.
