Matteo Ruggeri Transfer from Atalanta to Atlético Madrid
Matteo Ruggeri is set to leave Atalanta to join Atletico Madrid. According to Sky Sport, the operation is in its final stages, with the Italian winger moving to the Colchoneros for a fee close to 20 million euros. The deal is expected to be finalized within the next 48 hours, and the player is on the verge of agreeing with the team coached by Diego Pablo Simeone.
Atlético is contemplating the acquisition of Matteo Ruggeri, a 22-year-old left wing-back from Atalanta. Ruggeri has recently showcased his skills for Italy in the U21 European Championship, where they reached the semi-finals, and has been an important player for Atalanta under the guidance of coach Gian Piero Gasperini. Atlético views Ruggeri as a younger alternative compared to other prospects such as Robertson from Liverpool and Digne from Aston Villa, both of whom are 31 years old. Ruggeri's versatility in playing various positions and his height of 1.87 meters, which would enhance Atlético's aerial strength, are considered beneficial. Although he is contracted with Atalanta until 2028, Ruggeri is reportedly open to a move to Atlético. Initially, the club evaluated options from the Premier League, including Theo Hernández, before deciding to focus on Ruggeri in their efforts to rejuvenate their squad, which is known for being one of the oldest among Europe's top clubs. Ruggeri's capability to play as a left-back, wing-back, and even as a left-sided central defender increases his attractiveness to Atlético.
