Matías Rojas Transfer from Portland Timbers to Corinthians

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has ordered Corinthians to pay R$ 41.3 million to Matías Rojas, a 29-year-old Paraguayan midfielder who terminated his contract last year citing delays in image rights payments and now plays for Portland in the United States. Corinthians had previously been ordered to pay by FIFA but appealed to CAS, which rejected the club's arguments and increased the compensation. The amount corresponds to what Rojas was due to receive until his contract ended in June 2027, with the current total rising to approximately R$ 45 million due to interest. This situation follows an agreement in early 2024 where Corinthians acknowledged an R$ 8 million debt and committed to paying the full contract value in case of another delay, which subsequently occurred. The club's management has recently contacted the player's lawyer, Rafael Botelho, to seek an amicable settlement, and Rojas's staff is open to discussions, though negotiations are in an initial phase. If a resolution is not reached within 45 days, Corinthians faces a new transfer ban from FIFA. According to Transfermarkt, the player has a market value of €3.50m.
