Malick Fofana Transfer from Olympique Lyonnais to Manchester City
Lyon is thought to have placed a £50 million ($66.8 million) price tag on Malick Fofana. The player's representatives revealed the 20-year-old "belongs" at Liverpool or Manchester City after the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Fofana drew interest from clubs across Europe this past summer after a breakout 2024–25 campaign. According to Frederico Pena, a senior figure at Roc Nation agency, it is a matter of time before the Belgium international completes a move to the Premier League or the Bundesliga.
Malick Fofana’s agent, Frederico Pena, has backed him to thrive at a club like Manchester City, stating that Roc Nation has a lot of faith in him and that he belongs at clubs like Liverpool, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich. Pena added that Fofana is 'gradually preparing for a transfer' away from Lyon and that he could 'become a world star like Kylian Mbappe, Lamine Yamal or Kevin De Bruyne.' The agent has confirmed Fofana is preparing to leave Lyon in 2026.
Malick Fofana's agent, Frederico Pena, stated to 'Het Laatste Nieuws' that he believes Liverpool, Bayern, and ManCity are the types of clubs where the 20-year-old Belgian winger belongs, expressing hope for a significant transfer next summer. Pena described Fofana as an exceptional talent who is slowly getting ready for a move and noted that his agency wants to guide players who can shine at the upcoming World Cup. In the previous transfer window, FC Bayern had reached a verbal agreement with Fofana before signing another player. A transfer did not materialize at that time, with Olympique Lyon reportedly demanding over €40 million and Pena explaining that Fofana felt very appreciated at his club and did not want to risk that. The player's contract with Lyon runs until June 30, 2028, and his market value is estimated by Transfermarkt to be €30 million.
