Journalist Viktor Vatsko reported that Shakhtar Donetsk's plan to sign defender Maksym Taloverov failed because the parties were unable to agree on contract terms during negotiations. According to Viktor Vatsko, Taloverov demanded 1.4 million euros per year in personal terms, a salary which no player at Shakhtar Donetsk currently receives.

Maksim Taloverov commented on rumors about interest from Shakhtar Donetsk, stating that Stoke City had provided no information about an offer from Shakhtar for transfer negotiations. He also said he is currently a Stoke City player and is focused on preparing for the season.

Shakhtar Donetsk had planned to sign 26-year-old Ukrainian centre-back Maksym Talovierov from Stoke City during the summer transfer window. The Ukraine national team player, who has 8 caps, consented to joining the team, but the club stopped negotiations due to his salary demand of 1.5 million euros. According to Polish journalist Kamil Rogólski, these types of financial demands are a negative consequence of artificial market regulation. Rogólski also noted that another player, Konoplya, had requested 1.5 million euros a year from the Donetsk team. Talovierov joined Stoke City in July 2025, and his contract runs until June 2028. His current market value is €2.00m, according to Transfermarkt.
